Duke of Edinburgh's Award Testimonials

“The programme that I observed for Abbey Hill School was extremely well organised and sensitively run, taking into account the particular needs of the young men on their practice expedition. There was evidence that the training sessions had been effective as they were all well organised. The staff working on this particular expedition were totally sympathetic with the needs of the team, and I fully expect that there would be a successful outcome. The teacher who had accompanied the team spoke very highly of the service provided by CTS. I would have no problem in recommending CTS as an AAP. The expedition was well run and well supported.”

“The training day that I observed was well organised and well run. All aspects of the training framework were covered for the topics dealt with during the training. The training day was well run and well organised. Staff were on site in good time and all the necessary equipment was available. The school staff that I spoke to were enthusiastic and clearly felt well supported by CTS staff, especially important as this is their first year of offering DofE.”

"Dear Dave and Mark. Thank you an amazing Gold Residential. It was fantastic to see what Izzy had learnt and achieved. She even enjoyed the conservation work which she had had reservations about. We also appreciate you taking Izzy at such short notice when we were let down by her other residential. I will definitely be recommending you to anyone who asks. Looking forward to seeing the calendar! That is an inspired idea. All the best."
– Parent (Gold Participant)

"It was a really good week filled with lots of opportunities to take different photos. Going to Brighton on one of the days was a nice day out and it was good to take pictures of architecture and the sea. Doing the conservation was very interesting and it was good to take a break from the photography, learn about the environment and help make a change. I have enjoyed this week and would definitely recommend it to someone else."
– Gold Participant

"I definitely improved my photography skills and the eye for taking good photographs. With the help of Dave, I saw different perspectives of photographs and built upon his useful feedback to tell a story through photographs. I think I enjoyed Brighton the most. The busy, lively atmosphere was captured on my camera, helped by the clear skies. Feedback evenings were really useful, and we learnt about different applications to edit photos in. I took a lot from the editing tools Dave introduced to us. The itinerary was simple but well-rounded, including a mixture of city architecture sites and natural sites too, and we were given a lot of free time and independence, which I appreciated, since we are all young adults."
– Gold Participant

"Before this course I was quite anxious about the whole idea of a residential and I didn’t know how to use a camera at all, however I can now say that I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and have come out of it a better photographer. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the schedule was very flexible and very much open to discussion allowing you to get out of the week what you wanted to. The process to apply for the residential was quick and easy to use and I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an easy going fun experience."
– Gold Participant

"I managed to get more out the residential than I thought and learned new things I did not expect."
– Gold Participant

"I enjoyed the range of locations we visited and the freedom we got while on our residential. Also feel as though I learnt a lot in the week about photography and editing!"
– Gold Participant

"Hi Dave,  Just wanted to give you a quick email to just say thank you for all your support and guidance for the expedition skills with my students. They have done amazing from what Emma says and they are one step closer to achieving their Gold Award."
– DofE Manager (Special Needs School)

"We are very grateful that Ellie was given the opportunity to join this training and qualifying expedition at the last minute.  The support she received was fantastic.  I can tell she thoroughly enjoyed the qualifying expedition (an improved experience from the practice one as she didn't get any blisters!) as she has been desperate to do more walking, map reading and camping ever since!!  We live near Dartmoor and when we are out walking she is able to spot footpaths and routes both on the map and on  the terrain ahead of us so I think the instruction was very good.  The team are very well organised and supportive and the administration was very straight forward.  I'm assuming 5 is the top rating :)"
– Parent (Gold Participant)

"Hi Dave, I know you're on holiday this week but I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the 'open' Silver trip. Noah had an amazing time and has come away having made great new friends!"
– Parent (Silver Participant)

"I have really enjoyed my time doing the gold DofE residential. I have made new friends. I have really enjoyed spending time on Dartmoor as it is a very beautiful place to explore. I have learned new skills with a camera and how to edit the photos, as well as knowing how to take a better photo. I don’t think I would of had a better time without my teammates as since day 1 we all got on well with each other. I would like to thank Chase Training Solutions for their time helping me and my team mates completing the Gold residential."
– Gold Participant

"Thank you to all the team for their help and support. So pleased that Dave is still organising Expeditions we can buy into! We have had so many young people who have completed their Gold Expeditions through many years, with Dave's open expeditions. I know Abigail enjoyed the experience, although she still finds walking difficult!!! Josh is pleased he has completed it! Thank you from a very grateful DofE Leader, Trainer etc... A first class service!!!"
– DofE Leader (Uniformed Youth Organisation)

"Hi Dave, I hope you are well. I just wanted to say that I was made aware of the positive feedback you and your team received about the work you did in supporting Matthew to achieve his Bronze Expedition. That’s fantastic to hear and thank you for all the work you do and support you provide for DofE participants.”
– Operations Officer - AAP Quality & Compliance Directorate (DofE Charity)

"Dear Dave (and Team Chase). We want to thank you and your team for enabling our son Matthew to complete his Bronze DofE with you. What a fantastic experience he had! The whole experience from start to finish was very well organised. We were grateful that you took the time to speak with us on a number of occasions prior to the expedition to answer our questions and alleviate any concerns we had. Throughout the training and expedition Mark, Ben and Charlie were very understanding of Matthew and his needs, tailoring the way they communicated with him and the training style they used to enable him to be involved in each exercise. Because Matthew has additional needs, it’s so easy for people to presume that he can’t do something (or is not given the opportunity at all) but of course he can accomplish many things if he is given the chance and is supported appropriately! And this expedition proved it! Matthew accomplished many things over the four days, which he would not have been able to had Mark, Ben and Charlie not made that special effort. He was certainly pushed to the limit by your team, but as challenging as the trials and expedition were for him, thanks to the dedicated support he received, he achieved a positive outcome. As parents, we are over the moon that he has had this wonderful opportunity and are so pleased we were put into contact with Chase. Any parent of a child with additional needs will know of the barriers that are often placed in our way, but with determination and the right people around them these obstacles can be overcome. Where required, Matthew’s individual needs were catered for every single day and night so a huge thank you to you all for making this amazing experience a positive one - one we know Matthew will not forget. A massive thank you from the proudest parents. We will certainly be recommending Chase to anyone who is looking to complete their DofE. Kind Regards.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant with additional needs)

”Dear Dave, A huge thanks to you and your team for all of your efforts and support this past week in Wales. Jen had a fab time and really has come back so much more confident - it's wonderful to see 🙂 I would like to book her in for her Qualifying expedition with the same team in August if possible but note there are two courses? Is there still space within the same team to accommodate her and if so, which dates are the ones I need to go for please? Again a huge thanks to yourself, Chris and Emma.”
– Parent (Gold Participant with additional needs)

"Hello. Our son Josh was in Group 11 of Southam College's Bronze DofE expedition this weekend, and we just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone involved who helped to make it such an enjoyable and positive experience for Josh. He's had a wonderful time and we're very grateful to you all for taking such good care of him. Thank you all so much again and we hope you are now having a very well-deserved rest! Your time and effort is greatly appreciated."
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

"I want to pass on a huge thanks to your incredible staff for their efforts this weekend. In particular, Ian who did an outstanding job of leading the trip really getting the best out of our students and helping them to be the very best version of themselves. Our students responded really well to him and his methods and so we can only hope to see Ian again in the future. If you could pass on my personal thanks to him I’d really appreciate it."
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

"Hi Dave, I don't know if Orson's got back to you - possibly not as he's head down into GCSEs now, but thank you very much for both your emails. He and the others had a fantastic time. It was definitely more challenging than what they've done before but he had an amazing experience. I really feel he's grown so much as part of the process of doing these expeditions, and think he's quietly looking forward to the next one!"
– Parent (Gold Participant)

"Dear Dave, I am emailing you to let you know that I am very pleased and grateful for the way Chris A handled the situation after my injury with much care and respect as well as taking many extra steps to ensure I was happy. With his positive and supportive attitude, he didn't fail to cheer me up. Not only after my injury but throughout the whole expedition he was amazing, and I really appreciate it! It would also be lovely if you could pass on this appreciation to him.

”It has been a fabulous project to be able to coordinate and the Charity has already taken many learnings from the work to expand on the UK wide development of the DofE in voluntary and community groups, primarily through the work we are now doing with community groups through the support of the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust. I would also like to personally thank you for your support over the last 3 years in the work we have been doing with the Birmingham groups. Your support has been exceptionally helpful and has helped to provide the leaders with the skills they need to support their young people moving forward. The fact we have now gone on to expand our work with community groups through targeted UK wide work is testament to how this project has supported the expansion of our new strategy.”
– Regional Director (DofE Charity) following our support for the DofE's 'Bridging the Gap' Project

”Very well done to all the Explorers for completing the very gruelling DofE Gold expedition. What an amazing achievement. Big thanks to all the Leaders and the assessors at Chase Training for the time, hard work and support they gave the to the Explorers. Great pictures and fantastic memories.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Hi both. Just wanted to drop you an email with a massive thank you to Chase for supporting our first ever DofE group. They haven't stopped talking about it over the past week and we've already had lots of interest in moving onto Silver, which is great! Both myself, Shelby, and all the young people, really appreciated all the support and help you've provided (and the lemon slices)! We're pencilling in a celebration event with those who have completed their Bronze for sometime in September. I know you both are incredibly busy, but if we can make it work we'd love to have you there!”
– Community Development Manager (Youth Project)

“My husband and I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you and all your team at Chase Training Solutions. I collected William from his practice DofE Gold hike in the Brecon Beacons yesterday - he had a fabulous time! The group he was hiking with sounded like a really nice bunch whose enthusiasm and team spirit made it a really positive experience. It is obvious you and your team at Chase Training Solutions went to a great deal of effort to arrange and support such a well-co-ordinated expedition, especially given the extreme weather conditions. See you later in the Summer.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Dave hi. Just wanted to say a huge thank you for taking such good care of our boys and making sensible adjustments for the weather. They had a blast and are excited for the real thing in August. They loved their leader so please feed that back.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“A huge thank you to the CTS team that have supported both our year 9 and 10 Bronze participants and our Silver participants in successfully completing their expeditions. You have been a pleasure to work with and I wish to pass on my thanks on behalf of Hastings High School. A shout out to Dave and Ben who are always on hand to answer any queries and ensure the highest quality of delivery!”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“Hi Dave, a quick text to say that Geoff and Steve were absolutely brilliant, the best instructors we have come in to contact with since Chase has led our expeditions (we really liked van man Chris in Wales and one other, but I can’t remember his name!) but Geoff and Steve are A* quality!! Obviously not including Ben or yourself in that list, as it goes without saying 😂😂”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“This was our first year completing the DofE Award for a long while and CTS were fantastic in being so helpful, reliable, open, and honest to help us sort out plans to make our expedition happen. The company was extremely accommodating and flexible to allow us to work around a very tight schedule and we are very thankful for that. The CTS Team were great with our pupils and helped them develop their skills in all their training days ready for the expedition. This must have contributed to the success of the groups completing their award and doing so in good time and with little mistakes. As a school we have received many happy comments from parents for their expedition and this goes to show how well the expedition worked for our students and the positive comments they are going home to share with their families. Thanks again for a great few training days and expedition.”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“I just wanted to pass on my thanks to yourself, Mrs Aston & Chase Training Solutions. Penny was shattered, but thoroughly delighted with herself for completing her bronze DofE expedition. I'm very proud of her. Without the support she was shown & the adaptations made, she would of been unable to participate. So thank you for making it inclusive for her.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Having previously tried several AAP’s to help with our school DofE, including some of the other 'well known' ones, and being disappointed with their support to our students, we were reluctant to try another, however, we were recommended to try CTS, and are so pleased we did! Your organisation, staff, and the way in which they've supported our students, is truly amazing. Miles ahead of the others we tried. On your website you say that you are 'second to none' and, having experienced your services, feel that this statement is not overstated. Thank you so much and we'll be using you again and again!”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“I would like to start by thanking you for organising the practice expedition for us all from the group. I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it. Of course it was challenging, but I learnt more about myself in that week and I appreciate all your help in the successful running of the expedition and overall, the week. If you could pass our appreciation on to Chris and the others, we would be thankful for that also.”
– Gold Participant

“Great paperwork throughout the booking and pre-expedition. Lovely man (Dave) - I felt that the team really cared about my son's welfare and wanted him to succeed. Run to a VERY high standard.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Very helpful, and very reasonable charges. This does help with families on low income. Other AAP's charge very highly and so deters youngsters from completing the whole award.”
– DofE Leader (Scout Association)

“Completed an Open Gold Practice Expedition with CTS. Very well organised before and after the event. Staff knew what they were doing, helped well.”
– Gold Participant

“Thank you so much for all of your teams' hard work over the weekend. Our students have bounced into school this morning, talking all about the weekend, and we are being inundated with requests to offer Silver next year already 😃”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Chase completing my combined expedition training and practice. The training was to a great standard, it was comprehensive and it stuck with me when completing the expedition. I am also grateful for the adaptability that Chase showed having to deal with a lot of unexpected situations and persevering to make alternative arrangements for me to still complete the training and the expedition. Overall, I am very happy with how it went, and on top of this, I have also made some brilliant memories and friends.”
– Gold Participant

“All of the staff were really friendly and they were always happy to help if you needed it. They also let us sleep in the cabins at the campsite on the nights off, despite it costing them more money. The meals were of high quality and there was more than enough food available for everyone. I highly recommend Chase Training Solutions due to their great service and their dedicated staff.”
– Silver Participant

“The quality of delivery of the qualifying expedition was genuinely incredible. The whole program was well structured, with an introductory session on the first day and completed checks. Then throughout the entire week, we had instructors around if we needed anything, and in our case, one of our team members had a knee problem and was able to take some weight out of her bag, which I found pretty cool of the team to offer that. The administration team also worked very well as it was straightforward to book the expedition, and the documents sent were all unambiguous in what it was meant to do. There was no lack of information on all aspects of the expedition. From route planning to general details of Dartmoor, it was great. Furthermore, we had meetings and groups before we arrived. It all shows how much care the Chase team has for everyone who chooses to go with them. It definitely will be an expedition to remember. Thank you for providing such a great opportunity. Would you please send my best wishes to the team (Dave, Dave and Nao).”
– Gold Participant

“Thank you Dave Mayo, Ben Cleverley and the rest of the Chase team! We are so lucky to be able to work with such a great group of assessors. The training they give to the students is excellent. Students are able to work towards their Awards with clear guidelines, but are able to enjoy the experience and have lots of fun and make some great memories. We have been working with Chase for a few years and when lockdown hit, we thought we would have to move to the DofE ‘alternative version’ of an expedition or cancel everything, and the students miss out completely. Chase have been brilliant at rescheduling the expeditions as we needed to, completing everything within pandemic guidelines and as safely as possible, showing their flexibility and how great their support is to schools. We couldn’t do it without you – Thank you!”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“Really friendly and helpful staff located in a really nice area of the country that has nice paths and would be worth visiting for non DofE purposes. They made sure that our expedition progressed smoothly, without interference, allowing us to feel in control of our expedition while being safe and secure. I don’t think DofE providers come much better!”
– Silver Participant

“Hi Dave, I am yet to catch up with my students but understand the expedition went well and they very much enjoyed it. Thank you for looking after them so well in such testing temperatures!”
– DofE Manager (Independent School)

“Thank you so much for a great time last week and for all of your support – I am really looking forward to doing the Gold qualifying expedition next year!”
– Gold Participant

“I absolutely loved completing my Gold DofE expedition with Chase Training Solutions. The training was amazing and have learnt so much from Dave and his team. The pre-expedition information was very organised and helpful. Thank you for making my expedition so special and memorable! I really recommend that anyone wanting to complete their award chooses Chase as they are truly incredible!”
– Gold Participant

“Dear Dave and Ben. Thank you for all your hard work this year. This week it was a real pleasure to spend time with your instructors Derek, Kath, Chris and Keith as they taught and oversaw our Silver expedition on Exmoor and the Bronze training in school. With the Silver’s, I was impressed how the students’ pace and resilience developed over the 3 days, and how your team brought the best out of them. In Derek’s debriefing their positivity and enjoyment came through. Likewise, the development in our new students was also quick and wonderful to see. They had been brought on by the well-designed programme and thoughtful inputs of your team as over the day they became increasingly confident with their navigation and developed as a cohesive group willing to challenge and push on each other. They also had a great day!, and it gave them an opportunity for out of classroom learning which so many students haven’t had at all this year.”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“My daughter really enjoyed her Gold DofE practice, despite the 30c heat.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“They are all happy. Thank you to all the staff for looking after them. Couldn’t thank you enough. Pupils are happy and have such great experiences to share with everyone back home. Good luck with the rest of your expeditions. Keep cool and hydrated 😎”
– DofE Manager (Independent School)

“Dear Dave. A huge thank you to you and all your wonderful team for supporting the last of the legacy Saint Martin’s girls through their qualifying expedition. I know that Ellie, Lily and Flo would have learnt much from their experience and the expert tuition that you and Ben would have provided them. I will continue to ‘spread the word’ at Solihull School and will hope that I will be able to send pupils your way in the future. Take care and my very best wishes to you.”
– DofE Coordinator (Independent School)

“Hi Dave! I hope you are doing well. I would like to thank you and the team for giving us such a wonderful experience. I really enjoyed myself (tho bit challenging with the heat) hahaha.”
– Gold Participant

“I wanted to say thank you to you and the staff for the amazing week I had it was truly one of the best experiences I’ve had, second to my previous expeditions with Chase.”
– Gold Participant

“Hi Dave. Thank you for the Gold DofE training and practice expedition you ran during the heatwave, we were really pleased with the way it was managed.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Thank you CTS for supporting our Bronze participants to complete the Expedition section of their award this year. The training sessions and navigation day in March were very well planned and the instructors I saw working with groups on their navigation were excellent, finding a good balance between support and challenge. We really appreciate your flexibility to allow a qualifying Bronze expedition to happen later in the year. It still provided a meaningful challenge while staying within government guidelines. I particularly appreciated the care that the supervisors and assessors took over briefing and debriefing the teams of young people who had a long break between their training and their expedition.”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“Amazing experience overall, have created some strong bonds with new people and developed confidence significantly. Walking up the mountain, as tiring as it was, was incredibly gorgeous and all worth it. The admin was easily accessible and instructions were fantastically demonstrated.”
– Gold Participant

“Dear Dave. Thanks for your email, you’ve beaten me to it as we wanted to pass our and Robin’s thanks to you, Tony and Dan. Robin loved the experience, hard work as it was, and did indeed make what will hopefully be permanent friendships with the rest his group. He was on a real high when we collected him on Friday and a bit down yesterday as he just wanted to be back in Wales with everyone. Thanks again and see you in August.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Thank you to Ben, Geoff and Linda for making my DofE expedition such a great experience. Everyone was really friendly and kind, there was a relaxed atmosphere and our team definitely had fun. It was quite intense but a good idea to combine the practice and qualifying expeditions in one week. Certainly some special memories made and a real sense of achievement.”
– Silver Participant

“The expedition was amazing and really fun. The instructors were very good and nice and I loved getting to know lots of new people.”
– Silver Participant

“The expedition was really well planned and put together by the team. The leaders were all really nice and easy to talk to. They were helpful and kind and really good at preparing us for the expedition and the challenges it held. I had a really good time; it was a huge challenge, but my team and the leaders were always there to help and give reassurance where needed, and together, my team and I were able to overcome hurdles I don’t think any of us could have managed without each other’s support. Overall, it was a difficult but hugely rewarding experience, and I look forward to returning to the wilderness for my qualifying expedition in July!”
– Gold Participant

“Chris, just to say a massive ‘thank you’ for making this such an amazing couple of weeks during our practice and qualifying expeditions. You were always there to help our team from everything from walking with me to cheer me up on the practice, to giving me some of your spare clothes when I was cold, and actually caring about us as individuals, not just another team to put through the system. We went through some hard times, but thanks to the ‘7th’ member of our team, we had so much fun and it’s an experience I’ll never forget – so thank you again!”
– Gold Participant

“Dave, a quick note to say thank you so much to you and the whole team for your brilliant DofE Gold Expeditions – Archie completed both the practice and qualifying expeditions this summer and I was so impressed with your organisation, communication and support to Archie and his teams. Even though Storm Francis battered Dartmoor during the qualifying expedition, I knew Archie would be OK because Chase Training Solutions had prepared him well for whatever could be thrown at him! I’m sure Archie has made several new friends and is very proud of what he’s achieved. I’m singing your praises to all who will listen as I’m very grateful we decided to go with CTS! Thank you :)”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Chris, thank you for being the best DofE supervisor and giving us the best DofE experience ever!! The team really appreciated everything you did to help us and keeping us sane at the end of every day. All of us looked forward to seeing your green van, even if it was from the top of a tor! Thank you so much!”
– Gold Participant

“Chris, thank you so much for everything you did to make both our practice and assessed expeditions so great. We always looked forward to seeing your little green van pop up: partly because then we knew we were in the right place. Thank you for giving us clean water and extra clothes and kit! Thank you for motivating us each morning and giving us that extra push we needed and helping us cross the river without getting too wet (mostly!). Thank you form making our experience being the best ever and for being the best supervisor. We really couldn’t have done it without you!”
– Gold Participant

“Dear Chris, Ben, CJ, Derek, Dave and the rest of the Chase Training Solutions team. We all wanted to say a massive thank you for all you did in helping us get through our practice and assessed Gold DofE expeditions (in a pandemic nonetheless!). We are all incredibly grateful and had the best time (so much so we wanted to spend even longer out on the moors on Day 2). Thank you for being the best supervisors and assessors!”
– Gold Expedition Team

“I did my practice expedition with CTS last week and just wanted to say that I had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed all of it (even despite the torrential rain on Thursday).”
– Gold Participant

“Dave. Thank you for your support for this group and well done for pushing this through. I hope you have managed to salvage some of the season and that things will pick up from here. I have been most impressed with Chase – if and when I need further support I know where to come. All the best.”
– DofE Manager (Independent School)

“Dear Dave and team. Thanks for looking after Jacob so well. He had a fantastic time, so wonderful for the kids to get out after being cooped up for months! Best wishes.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Please find attached my presentation about our aim for the expedition. Ben said if this could be forwarded on to Derek it means he can sign it off all at once? Thank you so much for all your help and a massive thanks to our supervisor Keith for looking after us all so well! Many thanks and kind regards.”
– Gold Participant

“Thank you for providing the opportunity to allow them to complete their Gold DofE. Definitely challenging conditions on Dartmoor, but lots of fun had too! Loved hearing all about it on our return journey :)”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Well done Dave and team. You have been truly amazing. Your commitment and support to all kids, including my 2 boys on Silver and Gold this summer has been exceptional.”
– Parent (Gold & Silver Participants)

“Thanks very much for your support and help in regards to the Gold expedition. Having been in Devon and Dartmoor last week I know on some days the conditions were very wet. I have been impressed with Chase Training Solutions organisation and support and look forward to continuing to engage with yourselves for future Gold expeditions. Thanks very much Dave and Ben for all your support in difficult circumstances.”
– DofE Leader (Scout Association)

“Everything was really well organised which made the whole experience more enjoyable, especially considering the specific circumstances we are facing with coronavirus. All staff were calm and aimed to make our time both educational and fun. I liked the fact that we didn’t just have one staff member of Chase Training Solutions with us throughout the expedition. It was nice to keep it a surprise who we would be meeting along our journey as each member of staff brought something new to the experience. All I have to say really, is thank you!”
– Gold Participant

“Thank you so much for making this such an amazing couple of weeks. There were definitely incredibly testing times within this experience, however, I will always remember the enjoyment and success of completing my Gold. My team was amazing and all the instructors were so lovely and helpful, especially our supervisor Chris – he never failed to make us laugh and help out the team and seeing his green van in the distance always brought us happiness and relief! The administration was an easy process, especially in these odd times of Covid, and overall it was an amazing experience.
– Gold Participant

“Thanks guys! Ann, Jack, Chris and Dave, we really enjoyed ourselves! Thanks for your patience and support for the girls, they were completely out of their comfort zone but rose to the challenge 🙂 We’re looking forward to working with you in the future.”
– DofE Coordinator (Independent School)

“CTS are very well organised and the team were happy to answer any questions I had pre-expedition. The leaders were knowledgeable and I knew I would be in safe hands with them despite the harsh weather conditions! Overall I would highly recommend CTS.”
– Gold Participant

“Dear all Chase Training Solutions Team. We would like to send our sincere “Thank You” to all staff at Chase Training Solutions for supporting our Gold DofE Expedition! Thankfully, we all completed the expedition safely. We had a great time together during the expedition, in spite of the challenges. It was an experience that we will never forget and it gives us confidence for the future. Thank you very much again. Without your kind support and advice, we would never have achieved this. We really appreciate what you did for us. Very best wishes.”
– Gold Expedition Team

“Dear Dave. Many apologies for the late email! I wanted to say thank you sooooo much for the wonderful care you gave Isobel (and myself). As you know Isobel was a tad nervous at the prospect of participating with a group of people she did not know! But right from the start your words of encouragement helped so much and it was the hardest thing leaving her with you in tears, but I felt she was in safe hands! I want to thank you for ensuring that she was included and integrated with the groups she worked with and that is all down to your staff that trained them over the first few days. I dreaded picking her up and thinking she would be negative and maybe not even want to go and complete the real hike in October, but it was quite the reverse, she chatted for hours about her time away, and seemed very keen to do her qualifying trip. So much so, she has gone on to buy more walking trousers and gaiters for October. My only regret is that she will not be doing her qualifying with you. My niece is due to do her Gold in a couple of years and she will most definitely be doing it with you and your team as I can’t fault any aspect of what you do and offer these young people. Many thanks once again.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Thank you to Dave and all his team; Ben, Mark and Derek, for all their support in leading our Gold practice and qualifying expedition this year. It was the first time that we had taken our students as a group on a gold expedition and there were many challenges because of their SEN needs. However Dave and his team were amazing and worked with us to create an expedition that met the requirements, catered for their additional needs but more importantly proved a challenge to the students. Throughout the expedition Dave worked alongside our school staff succinctly to provide extra support where needed but let school staff take a lead when students needed support from familiar school staff members. Dave was a pillar of support when things went unexpectedly wrong and made sure that the students could still achieve their expedition section. Overall it has been an amazing achievement and experience for both the students and staff. It will not be be forgotten easily.”
– DofE Manager (Special Needs School)

“Thanks Dave – Chase Training Solutions have supported us superbly over the years and we really appreciate everything you’ve done. Supporting the learners, understanding their needs, being flexible and helpful in your approach. Helping Staff and always being there with advice if needed. Without the previous support of you, Ben and all the CTS staff this wouldn’t have been possible Dave – many thanks 👍👍😊😊”
– DofE Manager (Special Needs School)

“Thank you again for everything, the week spent with you guys was amazing and made the training and practice expedition an amazing experience. We were looked after really well and were made really comfortable and at ease during the whole week. It was my first time doing Duke of Edinburgh expedition and didn’t really know what to expect but you guys made it a great experience that I will not forget. Thank you again and I’ll see you this summer” 😁👍🏼
– Gold Participant

“Hi Ben and Dave. I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for help again this year. I also want to say how impressed we were with Ann and Helen over the two days of the expedition. They were very clear and thorough with their expectations but at the same time showed a really caring attitude towards the students. I have thanked Ann and Helen but thought I should let you know. Many thanks again.”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“Dear Dave. Lia found the DofE practice expedition very challenging but very very rewarding. Thank you so much to you and your team for making her and the others feel welcome and for the excellent support and guidance you provided them throughout their time with you. Thank you so much also for making her 18th birthday one to remember the card, cakes, badge and singing, it meant a lot to her. She is looking forward to the expedition in July. Kind regards.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Firstly just wanted to say overall how well the practice went. The weather held out, the kids faced all the challenges thrown at them and they definitely gave it all they got. Zak and Harry shook Mark and Derek’s hand at the end before we got on the bus which shows how much they appreciated the week. Once again thank you. I still cannot put into words the experience of taking them out last week and it will stay with all of us for years to come.”
– DofE Manager (Special Needs School)

“Hi Dave. The Gold Groups have just delivered their presentations to me and it was clear how much they enjoyed their time on expedition despite the challenges. They shared some lovely photographs taken during their journeys. I am really grateful to you and your team for providing the girls with a quality experience and for taking such good care of them. Looking forward to another year of working with you.”
– DofE Manager (Independent School)

“Good afternoon Dave. I would like to pass on how impressed I have been with your expedition staff from Chase Training Solutions. Wendy, Perry, Tony and Joe were phenomenal this weekend. All the Cardinal Wiseman staff were so impressed with their professionalism, how they were with our students and their manner with young people. Absolutely wonderful, so thank you so much and it would be great to pass on this praise to your staff too. I would love to request to see the same staff on our assessment expedition in September if that is possible.”
– Teacher (Secondary School)

“Hi Dave. A massive thank you for taking the time to come over today to High Grange to meet with us to go through Gold DofE. We felt it was a fabulous meeting and the information you gave us was honest, helpful and to the point and we really appreciate that and the time that you gave us, as we know how busy you are. We have to say, we are very impressed with you and your level of professionalism, care and understanding. This isn’t the first time that you’ve put our hearts and minds at ease and for that we thank you again. Tobias has developed some fantastic skills and he will be a credit to himself and your organisation. Thank you for carefully selecting the group that Tobias will be a part of, it’s been very reassuring to know that a lot of thought has gone into it. You are one of a kind and we are very pleased to know you 😁👍. Kind regards.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Hi. I have just checked Oliver’s DofE account and was delighted to see all the elements of the award that he did with you are signed off. Thank you so much for everything that you did for Oliver. I would especially like to thank Ben for his kind words that appear as evidence. I honestly can’t thank you enough for everything that you did.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Students had a great time and all happy. All the Supervisors were AMAZING. Thank you for giving us amazing Supervisors.”
– DofE Manager (Secondary School)

“I have had the most wonderful experience with CTS and have recommended your company to many other school contacts. Our qualifying expedition in September with Wendy, Gary, Joe and Peter was such a wonderful weekend in a stunning setting. Again without the experience, patience, compassion and dedication of your staff we would not be able to offer our students this program, so I cannot thank you and these four enough. Wendy is a fearless leader and respected by the students. In fact the groups were coming to me asking to have Wendy as their groups’ leader, she even had the honour of a group named in her honour ‘Wendy’s Angels’. Gary is always a charismatic leader, with a solution for every problem, his professionalism is outstanding. The students were well organised before they set off and were confident that if anything went wrong, Gaz would be there to save the day. Joe was seen bounding after students, and always puts his groups’ needs first. His group was well prepped and made to feel confident and ready for the challenge. Peter is incredibly knowledgeable. His group knew their route inside out and, although they faced challenging terrain, were aware of every challenge they faced en route. Peter also provided outstanding feedback and reflections.”
– Teacher (Secondary School)

“A big thank you to CTS for the fantastic way that you looked after Woking Explorer Scout’s Gold Practise team this weekend in the Brecon Beacons. The participants were extremely grateful for the extra bits of advice given during their hike. The leaders were impressed how Chase, ensured our scouts achieved to a high standard and to their individual abilities. They’ll certainly be back to do their Qualifier with you guys.”
– DofE Leader (Scout Association)

“This morning I just want to express how lovely it was to have you as our Supervisor. You are good at your job. I felt looked after and supported and having you around was a source of comfort for me. What you do really makes a difference to young people’s lives, and I wouldn’t have my Gold DofE now if it hadn’t been for you. Honestly, you felt more like a parent or friend than a Supervisor. I am grateful for the commitment and dedication you had for us on the walk.”
– Gold Participant

“My Son had a great time. Thank you everyone for making Josh’s training and expedition so much Fun. I can’t believe he started with Bronze, and now Silver, and now he wants to complete his Gold with Chase Training Solutions. I am always relaxed when he is at CTS. I know he is looked after and safe. Absolutely Brilliant staff. Ben was amazing as usual, Josh is full of praises mentioning how supportive Ben was. Thank you Ben and Dave for looking after my son. See you for Gold. Regards.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Dave. Thanks very much for the email and also a very big thank you for running the group so successfully!! Stella got a huge amount of her experience and, it’s a long story, so too much for here, but that is worth its weight in gold right now!! I will pass on the certificate and comments to Stella and we will come back to you shortly with some additional positive feedback. Thanks again, much appreciated!”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Very good communication and fantastic knowledge and understanding from all staff.”
– Gold Participant

“It was all very organised and we were given plenty of time when planning. It was also nice to have leaders come to the campsites so we could ask questions, etc.”
– Gold Participant

“The leaders were chilled about everything we did, giving us free will to plan our route. The whole atmosphere was chilled.”
– Gold Participant

“It was a mad week, and a great group to do it with. The leaders made it 100x better. Seeing their faces at the end of each day boosted morale.”
– Gold Participant

“It was ‘open’ in that we were allowed to be independent and choose campsites and routes, which I didn’t expect, but I was very impressed.”
– Gold Participant

“Dear Dave, Ben, Gaz and the team. Thank you for guiding and supporting Tom through his Silver Expedition!?He has clearly had the best expedition experience with you, over of any of his earlier ones! Previously he has felt the weakest member of the team, with other team members setting a pace he struggled to maintain. There had also been commandeering of the map reading, so Tom felt he was useless and couldn’t do it. What a different young man came home yesterday! Tom said he’d enjoyed doing some of the map reading and didn’t have any difficulty keeping up with the group – even leading at times. He felt well prepared with the planning on Sunday and found the time getting to know the other team members a great benefit to team building. The terrain was a new area for Tom to explore and this added to his enjoyment. He is looking to start Gold when he is 16 in April and would be interested in joining one of your expeditions again. Many thanks.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Hi Dave. On behalf of all of Team Delta, thank you so much for running such a good expedition last week. We were blessed with great weather which was perfect for hiking but, even when the conditions are in our favour, we all need that little boost which your team provided brilliantly, so a big thank you to them too. We all had a brilliant time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I personally loved how personable but professional you and your team were.”
– Gold Participant

“Hi Dave, I’ve been wanting to write to you since Tobias got back but I really wanted to think about what I wanted to say which is why it wasn’t sent straight away. I’ve sure you’ve met parents like me before that just want to shelter and protect their children from what can be an awful, cruel world with some truly nasty people in it. Unfortunately, in Tobias’ few years, we’ve come across far too many of those which makes it harder for me to let go and trust him to the care of others. It was with great trepidation that we let him go with you, his first time alone with strangers and I felt distressed and distraught in the run up to leaving him on the Monday. After having spoken to you the week before, my fears had subsided a little because you were so kind and understanding and patient with me. The night before, I didn’t sleep and I was sick with nerves that morning. We made the drive over to you, in the snow and the rain. Tobias was desperate to go, to do it alone without support and it was our job to facilitate that, regardless of my fears and anxieties. We left him with you and your team, he was happy and relaxed and quite pleased to wave us off. His communications with us while he was away were very cheery and he was obviously very excited. When we picked him up on the Wednesday, he was glowing. He looked so healthy, so happy. He doesn’t do pride but he was clearly very happy with himself 😁 and what he’d accomplished. You and your team took the most excellent care of him and I can’t thank you enough for your attention to detail, he was a real member of the team, he came back with some brilliant stories and he’d even made a friend which was beautiful. He’s very much looking forward to the practice and qualifying expeditions, I feel more relaxed about it also. We would still very much like to meet with you to discuss the expeditions so thank you for agreeing to that. Please let us know when this would be convenient for you? If you were to come across other parents like me in the future, please feel free to pass on my number or email and I would be more than happy to talk to them to alleviate their fears and concerns. Thank you again for a truly remarkable and memorable adventure.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Hi Dave. Thanks for all you did for us and all the other assessors on our Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I never knew Duke of Edinburgh could be so much fun.”
– Gold Participant

“I feel this email is a little overdue to thank you so sincerely for helping Milo to complete his practice. He had the most wonderful time! It was unexpected that he would get so very much out of the experience, but he arrived home with only positive feedback. He loved the training, he loved his team, and we thought how wonderful that young people from different areas and backgrounds could bond so fantastically and enjoy each other’s company. He also felt a brilliant sense of achievement which for us, his parents, was something to see, especially after the negativity of ‘failing’ his school practice. Over the years with my three children I have seen them return from lots of trips and outings and I can honestly say that Milo’s response to his time with you was the happiest, most enthusiastic I have ever seen. Thank you for giving him a wonderful experience to remember and, even more, for helping him along the way with his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. With best wishes and, again, thank you.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Dave, hi. I just wanted to say thank you to you and your team for providing such a positive experience for Conor last week. Despite finding the hike very tough, he made lots of new friends and came back full of praise for your team with a number of funny stories to tell and feeling very proud of getting through the week. This is the first time Conor has done anything like this and he and I were pretty nervous about it. I need not have worried. For a boy that normally says very little, he didn’t stop talking about all the things he had done, all the new things he had learnt, the friends he had made, and many stories of animal encounters! I think you and your team really helped make his experience the success it was, including the marvellous food that was provided, especially the roast!! Many Thanks.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“I was pleasantly surprised we were able to choose campsites and that there was minimal input from leaders about the route so we could tailor routes to what we wanted to see.”
– Gold Participant

“Finally recovered and unpacked after an amazing week in the Brecon Beacons. Thank you to everybody who was apart of the week and helped make it such a fantastic and enjoyable time. The assessors and supervisors were exceptional, and without them it wouldn’t have been such a amazing experience. 😀 Thank you all!!!”
– Gold Participant

“Hi Dave and Ben – we all just wanted to say a big thank you to both of you, and all the staff at CTS, for working so hard and so well with our learners on all the expeditions this year. As always you are both professional, great with the learners, and have a great sense of humour, and are easy to get along with. We really do look forward to working with you next year, and it’s a part of the curriculum that I and many of the staff and learners look forward to. Have a great summer both of you from all of us at Abbey Hill.”
– DofE Manager (Special Needs School)

“Hi Dave. I just wanted to thank you and Ben for our 2-day DofE training. The students, although quite tired today, were ‘buzzing’ about their time away and everything they’ve learnt. It was a fantastic opportunity for them and one I feel will be remembered for many years to come. They’ve been telling everyone how good it was and how much they enjoyed themselves. Thanks again for an amazing experience! It was lovely meeting you both, especially as you worked really well with our students. We look forward to the next stage in the student’s adventure!!”
– DofE Manager (Special Needs College)

“Hi Dave. I wanted to express my sincere thanks for your efforts in providing Josh with an exceptional Duke of Edinburgh’s Award experience during his Bronze qualifying expedition. Josh has found the experience very rewarding and has enjoyed every minute with his team members and all the staff members at CTS. The highlight of his trip was hiking and navigation with his team and also the water balloon fight. I was always hesitant to send Josh anywhere on his own without people he knew, however he has returned with some new friends and some great new experiences, which I am certain he will remember for life. After such and amazing time, I am glad to mention that Josh wishes to continue with the award and aims to complete his Silver qualification. Thank you and Regards.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Hi Dave. Just a quick note to say thank you to you and the team for your training, guidance and supervision for this year’s Open Gold expedition. Our young people really appreciated the support from your team and actually almost enjoyed themselves, at least on the last day! I’m sure we’ll be using Chase Training Solutions again and will certainly recommend you.”
– DofE Leader (Uniformed Youth Organisation)

“I would like to thank you and your team. Dylan has come away from this experience with more self confidence in his own abilities and has really enjoyed his expeditions this year with you. Thank you.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Hi Dave. As a parent I’d like to thank you for the smooth organisation of the Silver. Jess was tired, of course, but ‘buzzing’ on the drive home. I think it’s more than likely that she will go ahead and complete the qualifying expedition with you, so we’ll get online and book that as soon as we know for certain. Many thanks.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“I’m delighted to let you know that Jack completed this last week with Dave Mayo at Chase Training Solutions on their Worcestershire walk. We booked very last minute but they were extremely accommodating and Jack thoroughly enjoyed himself. If anyone asks for a summer expedition in the area again, I couldn’t recommend them enough. In fact, Jack wants to do his Silver walk with them next year!”
– DofE Manager (County Council)

“Dear Dave. I thought the team that you sent were excellent. Ann & Chris in particular were extremely diligent and professional at all times. They totally inspired the girls with their enthusiasm and encouragement. They quickly gained my trust and it was obvious that they were a highly organised and efficient team. Matthew worked quietly with the two smaller groups and again knew their positions, regularly checking in promptly throughout the course of the expedition. It was a very positive experience and the team were first class!?I believe we are working with Ann & Chris again on the Qualifier and I look forward to it with pleasure.”
– DofE Manager (Independent School)

“Hi Dave. I wanted to say thank you to you and the team, Geoff, Ben, Gaz, and Jason. Josh had a amazing learning experience. Josh said he had a lot of fun and he also made some really good friends. I would recommend you to anyone looking to complete their expeditions. Thank you for making it such a good wonderful experience for him and I am so very grateful. I would also like to book him for his qualifying expedition.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Just a quick email of thanks for your help with Andrew’s assessed expedition, and getting reports so promptly onto the DofE website. I would have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone else looking for an open expedition to join.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Dear Dave. My apologies in the delay in sending this email to you. I wanted to thank you very much for the experience you provided Andrew back in both April and May for his Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. He really had an amazing time and has kept in contact with his new friends he met at Chase Training Solutions. Andrew spoke very highly of all your team and said he learnt an enormous amount of useful skills, so thank you very much for all this. Thank you also for completing the assessors report with praise of Andrew. I have recommended you and your team to other parents at my sons school. Kind regards.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Evening Dave. I hope you have made it home after a busy weekend. Cracking weekend! The staff you put together for the weekend were really good – great content and delivered extremely well. Catch your breath and I’ll get some sleep (It was very cold last night!) and then maybe we can put some dates in the diary for route planning after school. Thanks again.”
– Teacher (Secondary School)

“Hi Dave, I just wanted to say thank you for the few days Diran attended between the 9th and 12th August. He said it was very well organised and really enjoyed his time there. He said the helpers were great and a lot of fun, and he did very well with his team to complete the walk. I know when we last spoke, I only booked the practice walk and not booked the qualifying expedition in October. But as Diran is happy with you and the team, we would like him to complete is qualifying expedition in October with you too. Please let us know what we need to do for this to go ahead.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Dear Dave. I just wanted to say thank you for the DofE Bronze expedition that Annabelle and Sophie recently attended. They were both very impressed with how things were organised and feel now that they have definitely earned their ‘pass’, not just due to the very cold weather conditions they endured but because everything was very much by the book. They also enjoyed making new friendships. They have both said that they would like to return in a year or two to complete their DofE Gold with you, rather than with the local DofE provider, which is high praise indeed, placing the quality of your course over their loyalty to school and friends. Thank you.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Just wanted to say thank you so much to you and your team for the amazing week I had last week on the DofE open expedition. I was so nervous at the start of the week, not knowing how I was going to fit in with people I didn’t know but I felt so welcome. Everything was so well organised and there was a lovely, friendly atmosphere. The experience was as good, if not better than doing it with school. I’m so happy I’ve completed Silver and my blisters have almost healed. I have made some brilliant friends during my experience and hope we will keep in touch. Thank you again.”
– Silver Participant

“I Just wanted to send a slightly belated thank you to yourself and all the team from last week on my Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Open Gold Expedition. I don’t know whether my mind is now blocking out the slightly low points(!) but from what I can remember now, I had a brilliant week. We are all so proud of ourselves but it couldn’t have been done without all your support, fab organisation and great food! I met some brilliant people who I’m sure I will keep in contact with and the week itself, I’ll always remember. Please pass on the thanks to all the ‘supervisors’ (: and once again thank you to yourself, who did make the week a very enjoyable experience. I will definitely be recommending you guys to anyone who asks!”
– Gold Participant

“Hello Dave. Thank you to you and the team for a very good Silver expedition this week. Conor was really positive – he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I was impressed to hear that the group dynamics worked even though they’d never met before. I would certainly recommend Chase Training Solutions to others.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Hi Dave. Thank you for a very well organised expedition. I know Ollie enjoyed the experience and even the challenging weather conditions! I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone. As parents we felt very at ease and knew they were in safe hands. Again many thanks.”
– Parent (Gold Participant)

“Thank you so much for all your help, care and support. Everyone was absolutely amazing, and I can’t thank you enough.”
– Gold Participant

“Sorry it’s taken a few days to contact you but I just wanted to thank you and your colleagues again for helping Angus to succeed in the Open Silver Qualifying Expedition last week. He was very tired and a bit subdued when we met at BNS last Saturday afternoon and has not said a great deal about what they all got up to last week. However, one of the other participants has kindly sent him through some photos of their adventures and I can see that he was thoroughly enjoying himself when they were taken. Such experiences are important to ALL young people, but for someone like Angus who faces major barriers to engaging in everyday teenage activities -they are even more significant. I am well aware of the time and effort that goes into the planning, organisation and delivery of this type of programme and would just like to say how much I value all the support that Angus received whilst in your collective care. All being well, he plans to register for the Gold Award shortly and i am quite sure he would not even be contemplating this if his experience with CTS had not been so positive. Many, many thanks indeed.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“I would like to say a massive thank you for making Kieran’s Practice Expedition with the Silver DofE Team a totally enjoyable experience for him. He is now looking forward to his Qualifying Expedition with yourself in October. Adam, who shared a tent with him, approached him about his Asperger’s as he has a brother with the same condition and recognised the traits Kieran was showing, and it is the first time he has openly agreed to talk to someone about his condition. I have been totally overwhelmed at his attitude since he has come back and can only thank you for making him feel so comfortable. I was wondering if you could send me details of any residential courses that you run which Kieran could enrol in for his residential section of his Gold Award next year. He is particularly interested in the ‘Outward Bound’ courses, archery, climbing etc, as I am unsure whether you run individual schemes or whether it is for groups only. Once again, thank you so much for your continued help and assistance and look forward to putting Kieran back into your capable hands in October.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Another memorable experience for Kieran. Can’t express enough my gratitude to you and your team. He may have been cold, wet and muddy, but he’s positively buzzing. Massive thank you.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Hi Dave. Just a message to say thank you for supporting Jess through the Silver DofE. She does, quite rightly, have a real sense of achievement. We will be in touch when she’s ready to do the Gold. Kind Regards.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Dave & Ben. Thank you for forwarding this letter and even more for supporting Tom through his practice hike. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with you and has just about caught up on his sleep!”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“That’s great news Dave! I’ll have great pleasure contacting the students today. They’ll be over the moon! They were so enthusiastic when they got back to college. They had two student meetings where they had 5 mins to talk about their experiences. We couldn’t shut them up! It was amazing. They were so proud of themselves. There’s definite proof that the DofE can change a person’s life! Kirsty’s father cannot believe how she’s changed and grown over such a short period. He was so pleased and thanked DofE profusely. Thanks again to you and your team! It was an amazing experience for all of us.”
– Teacher (Special Needs College)

“We would like to thank you and your team for looking after my daughter. The whole event was so well organised. She enjoyed all aspects of her stay and expedition. We will obviously call you first when she is ready to do her Gold award expedition. Thank you all once again for giving her a great time and lovely memories.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Just a quick note to say how much Sarah has enjoyed DofE training experience. She has enjoyed meeting new people and the friendliness of the staff. She thinks you have the balance just right for the learning and the relaxation and is already looking forward to completing the next stage in her Bronze DofE.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“Thanks for everything over the last 5 days. It topped my expectations on a crazy level! I would recommend it to anyone and my DofE expedition has given me so many memories and I’ve made a lot of new friends who I am determined to keep in contact with, both in my team and out! You have an awesome team as well so please pass my thanks onto them. You may even have to deal with me again if I decide to do Gold with you!!”
– Silver Participant

“My son, Jack, completed his DofE Silver Expedition on your course recently. I would like to thank you, and all the Chase Training Solutions staff involved, for the excellent work you do. My son had a thoroughly good time testing his abilities away from the usual routines, with a group of new people in an unfamiliar location. The experience has provided a great benefit to his development. I was very impressed with the high standard of your whole organisation and we would not hesitate to come to you again in the future. Finally, thanks for the friendly hospitality shown to me when Jack arrived and departed.”
– Parent (Silver Participant)

“Many thanks Dave. Izzy thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I would have no hesitation in recommending you to friends.”
– Parent (Bronze Participant)

“We’re back from Dartmoor and in one piece. Gold was absolutely AMAZING! We didn’t get lost, or even misplaced, and the weather wasn’t too bad although my boots are still wet! The experience of the expedition and exploration, both on Brecon and Dartmoor was awesome. Just want to say thanks again to Dave, Ben, Wendy and David, and all the other supervisors and assessors who helped us along the way. Couldn’t have done it without you!”
– Gold participant

I never thought I would have enjoyed it as much as I did, and much of it is down to the fun we had with you all, making me laugh when I really did not feel like laughing sometimes! "Morning Dave, I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to you and your company for a thoroughly enjoyable and well organised training for my Level 3 LEL qualification. Derek is an absolute font of knowledge and a fantastic teacher, with such a warm and generous manner that, although physically demanding at times, I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. You’ve got an absolute gem there! I feel well qualified and well placed to start exercising my qualification. Many thanks and best wishes to you all."

“Hi Dave, I got in touch with Sophia Brown from Steppin Sistas following our conversation the other day. In her response she gave some glowing feedback about you guys so I wanted to share that with you. “we couldn't ask for a better trainer. Derek and Dave have been absolutely fantastic 👏🏾” Always nice to hear it from the mouths of the learners. Well done, again!
Thanks”.

“It was great to learn specific advanced navigation skills and leadership development.”

“It was great to learn about remote supervision and good tips of how this can be done for different ability groups.”

“Amazing! Derek is very knowledgeable and personable. He delivered the course exceptionally well.”

“Derek was a fantastic and knowledgeable instructor and all the learning outcomes have been met.”

“Thank you Derek. - really enjoyed the course and your expertise/advice was really appreciated.”

“I have wanted to do this course for many years more informationnd I was really excited to finally be going on it. It was more than I hoped ot would be and I am really grateful to have done it.”

“Sorry we missed you yesterday Dave. Thank you so much (I think after yesterday 🤪😂😂) for such great training. Absolutely brilliant. Yesterday was one of the hardest days I have done walking but Matt and Julian were superb and got us through it along with our incredible team spirit, our experience and your teaching. I have thoroughly enjoyed your course and am so proud to have passed. Thank you. Your advice and teaching have really helped and inspired me for a future of adventures. Hopefully not in too many more storms!! Best wishes and thank you”

“Hi Dave/Ben. Thanks for all your help this week, we seemed to fit in so much but it was fabulous fun and whizzed by. As a team you have been calm and supportive throughout with a good dose of humour…impressive when given a bunch of teachers to work with! It has been a pleasure working with you and I hope to send more of our teachers your way in the future. Hope you have a restful weekend”

“Hi Dave – just a quick email to say many thanks for the LEL course last week; I was a bit worried it would be rather ‘dry’; but I was more than pleased to find the reality was otherwise. In 22 years of education/teaching, I can honestly say this was the best course I’ve yet been on. Owen was superb – told us what we legally and educationally needed to know, then backed that up with pragmatic, common-sense info; and his knowledge of his subject was beyond impressive. I think he could tell me black is white and I’d believe him. The density of knowledge passed on in the 5 days was, in retrospect, staggering. Even more staggering, as I think about it, most if not all of it seems to have stuck in my late-middle-age (and therefore usually increasingly forgetful) brain. Can’t thank/praise Owen enough. I’m looking forward to getting back to school next week so I can bang on in DofE sessions about everything covered on the course. I hope the other course attendees enjoyed it half as much as I did. Regards – and thanks again.”

“The course tutors were very knowledgeable on the topics. They made it interactive which allowed for ease of learning. They were just great!!”

“Great that we added in the NNAS. Really good that was applied to St John Ambulance. Great trainers, felt like one big team with delegates and trainers.”

“I learnt compass skills which I know will be useful when I teach my DofE groups.”

“Great to deal with when arranging. Non biased response and quick response. Very flexible to needs of the group with location, experience, etc.”

“Information for venues and equipment was provide well in advance of all events. Instructions were clear and sessions ran to schedule.”

“Pacing was useful and recapping tick features as I had not done this in a long time.”

“I am feeling more confident in setting and following bearings; night navigation and have a greater understanding of different leadership roles.”

“It’s been an amazing week. Shame it had to come to an end. Learnt so much, navigation, compass techniques, different types of camping stoves and fuel, how to pack a rucksack and route cards.”

“Excellent course covering all main aspects of teaching DofE expeditions. Well informed and great resources.”

“Excellent all round knowledge given out and ample time to put it into practice, i.e. navigation skills and Trangia set up.”

“Navigation, use of compass and putting these skills to the test was very useful and gave me more confidence with teaching it.”

“Sooooo much fun, very enjoyable and Dave, Ben and Owen are incredibly friendly, approachable and, most importantly, knowledgeable. Thanks guys, you won’t be seeing the last of me!! 😊

“The course was really good thanks. I am feeling like a navigation expert! I don’t know what the old course entailed but the new LEL3 is really good. I have come away with a Scheme of Work for DofE lessons and a few exemplar lessons/route cards, alongside other things. The training was great and the instructors were really really friendly and easy to get along with. I can’t really say anything negative!”

“Learnt fun and interesting ways to put across information to young people, e.g. cones 4×4 grid direction exercise.”

“I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for all of the hard work and effort put into providing us with the necessary training and expertise the pass the Sports Leaders BEL Course. Although the course involved a great deal of time and effort to complete we could not have asked for a more professional, friendly and knowledgeable training provider to prepare us to complete the assessment weekend.”

“Really good course. Very informative with wonderful instructors who have given me confidence to lead DofE expeditions.”

“Thank you so much. I have loved this course and feel your approachable and knowledgeable experience has prepared me so well to be able to lead and deliver this information myself and use this with my students. It’s been an honour to learn from the best…cheers Dave and Owen. Many thanks again.”

“Really enjoyed myself on the course and improved my skills and received lots of valuable information.”

“I feel confident to go back to school and put my new knowledge straight into practice.”

“A fun course that encouraged group members to share there ideas and experiences in an informal setting, as well as using the traditional practical activities to develop skills. Group members developed leadership qualities throughout the course and gained in confidence. Thanks for the hard work in organising the course.”

“A super course! Lots of detail, with all of the elements of the LEL3 learning outcomes covered and explained and put into practice.”

“Hi Dave. Just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and the Assessor Team 🙂 I really enjoyed the BEL assessment weekend, and had such a great time getting to know Julian, Nigel and Steve. They really inspired me and I did learn a few different things from each one of them over the 2 day period. Once again a massive thank you Dave, 10 out of 10 for the weekend. Brilliant team leaders and the two groups 🙂 I would not have wanted to change a thing about the course and how it was structured. Really well done to you Dave.”

“Really enjoyable and useful, thank you! Such an approachable team, so you feel more comfortable asking questions and advice.”

“Hi Dave – thanks to you and Ben for the training to help me through this great and testing assessment weekend – there was no evaluation form today but I’d like to say Julian was outstanding – in his knowledge and insight, his guidance and expertise was a pleasure to experience and I hope I have made a valuable contact for future as a reference point as well as further educator – hope you are well – I now need sleep.”

“Many thanks for a fantastic course. Will be in contact again.”

“A superb course which really prepared us to improve ourselves, but also gave us an awareness of how our students really feel. Looking forward to future courses which build on this and hope to keep in touch with you. Thank you to all our trainers and hope to see you soon on future DofE adventures!”

“Dear Dave. A huge thank you to you from the Chipping Norton Deanery! We are delighted to have finally finished our training and qualified, because at times we thought we simply would not have the time to do it. However, we are also rather sad that our walks have now ended ? we will miss them greatly. Thank you so much for your patience with my mad emails, your good humour and your flexibility. The way you adapted the course to suit our rather eccentric needs was really helpful, in fact, I am not sure we would have managed to do it any other way! I will keep you informed about the progress of the trails.”

“Having heard about our local OA courses from past BEL students in Herts, I feel that we got more time to reflect on our learning through the staggered nature of the course. We were also taught by real enthusiasts (Dave and Steve, plus other helpers, who were always great) who worked well together and demonstrated the real reason we work with young people. I found it really refreshing and inspiring to be surrounded by all our trainers throughout the course (inc. the Outdoor First Aid course).”

Dear Dave. A few words of thanks from me to you regarding your BEL training and assessment. I’ve really enjoyed it and gained a huge amount; despite having already led 4 Silver and a Gold expedition, it will really helped me up my game and deliver a much more effective and engaging programme. Again, as per the time before at Cannock Chase, the instructional team were great. Steve and Chris went beyond simply professionally delivering an event – it was clear that they genuinely enjoyed being there and were hugely enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge, wanting the candidates move on. Thanks again for being so flexible with changing the assessment date. You were very reasonable! All the best & thanks for a quality learning experience!”

“This was a well run course which provided a great deal of essential information and practical instruction with a good supply of handouts to enable you to go over the various teaching elements at a later date.”

“I have had my certificate come through for the Basic Expedition Leadership course, and now that is complete, I would like to express my thanks to you for the effort you put into that course and the way, as students, we were treated, adult like (that may seem obvious, but that is not always the case with some people who instruct, for some there is a power buzz).”

“Once again Dave, many thanks, I really enjoyed it and feel some sense of achievement.”

“To say that I enjoyed the course is an understatement. I would like to express my thanks to the course staff for an enjoyable course and have walked away from the course having learnt many outcomes (too many to list). The training was delivered in a relaxed adult style.”

“I have personally experienced this course and completed my BELA (Basic Expedition Leadership as it is now). I cannot recommend this qualification or delivery agent more heartily. It was refreshing to learn from somebody who not only did this for a living, but also has a passion for best practice. As an outdoor professional, I can now understand the importance of the effective interpersonal skills Dave and his team instil into the course, alongside quality outdoor content. It is also important to mention that over the last few years when commenting to colleagues the relevance of the course, it would seem Dave’s unique delivery style and attention to detail has equipped me with far more than a certificate.”

“It was a well rounded informative course at times very humorous with a good group of people with similar ambitions. It provided a good learning environment for all levels and ages and coached by knowledgeable course leaders. Thank you.”

“I just wanted to say thank you for running an excellent course.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, particularly the assessment weekend, and have learnt so much. Please can you pass on my thanks to the assessors Paul and Matt too, as they were very helpful throughout the weekend.”

“Our first expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at my place of work is in 5 weeks so really looking forward to this and putting all of my new skills to good use.”

“I had all the information I needed in the pre-course information and instructions. I felt that the course was really well organised. The regular emails and reminders of future sessions were also really useful.”

“The main thing I have taken from this is about Navigation and map reading. Prior to starting this course my navigation skills were not great. However this course has really helped me and I am much more confident in my navigation.”

“Just wanted to say a big thank you for all your help and support, it was really hard not to burst into tears yesterday when Owen told us we had all passed. I think completing the assessment weekend was one of the hardest things I have done, as a team we really did gel and supported each other along the way when the conditions underfoot were not ideal. As you know I was very apprehensive at the start of the course but I am now feeling far more confident and am looking forward to getting out with the students in the spring.”

“This was an intense course but was absolutely fantastic in achieving what it set out to. Both Dave and Owen were superb instructors and made the week enjoyable.”

“All the information given was accurate and I felt like I was well looked after. The location was brilliant and the accommodation was warm, comfortable and fit for purpose.”

“The navigation aspects of the course were taught very well, especially additional skills such as pacing and route cards. I am now confident in sharing my knowledge with a group and what to teach a group, as I know a lot more.”

“Both Dave and Owen have led an excellent course. I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the course and feel I have learnt a great deal whilst I have been here. I will definitely recommend this course to any other colleagues and friends who are looking to become qualified. Many thanks.”

“I enjoyed the course. Dave and Owen were excellent in equal measure. A relaxed, informative and non-judgemental teaching environment which helped inspire confidence – thank you.”

“Brilliant leadership and open friendly manner Dave. Yourself and those I have worked with have been fabulous company and I feel very proficient and confident in using my skills in the outdoors.”

“The course leader and facilitators were very friendly, approachable, adaptable, with a great sense of humour and professionalism. Keep it up guys!!”

“Excellent course and very enjoyable. All members of staff delivering the course were able to answer questions in detail and give clear instructions to improve. Enjoyed the week!”

“I just wanted to write and say a big thank you for running such a friendly and informative BEL course this summer. I personally learnt a huge amount and hope that it will all be put to great use inspiring another generation to get out on those hills and seize the day.”

“I learnt a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was really pleased to find that we got NNAS and ESTC bundled into BEL, great value for money! There was precious little ‘down-time’ over the week, meaning our days were fully used. The handouts and pointers to the other resources were valuable. Even after having run 2 Gold and 3 Silver paddling DofE expeditions, I learnt a massive amount and now have the knowledge to help me run this coming year’s events to a significantly higher standard of professionalism.”

“Thank you for your time, expertise and support throughout the course.”

“Thank you so much. This has been a fantastic experience and I have learnt a lot. Really, really enjoyed it.”

“Fantastic. Provided me with a range of skills and knowledge. Thank you both, you are fab!”

“Hi Dave. I would just like to thank you and Ben for a great week, learnt a lot had great fun and met some lovely people. Could you also pass on my thanks to Owen.”

“Hi Dave. Thanks for a fab week again!! Provided lots of information and support! You and Ben have the patience of Saints ha! Thanks again.”

“Hi Dave and Ben. Thanks ever so much for the course last week. I had a great time and learned so much. I am feeling much more confident now to be able to lead a group and to teach the skills we learned in the course last week too. I am already talking to the DofE Coordinator here to work out the options for me to teach some of our groups, but wondered if you could help me out too? I am more than happy to come along to Blackwell in the coming months if you need an extra pair of hands. Perhaps you (Ben) can get back to me with any dates you can offer me? I am booked in for the First Aid course in March, along with my partner, and am awaiting dates of the DofE Assessors course as and when you have finalised them. I am aiming to take my assessment in July, so I have plenty of time to collate my evidence and logged walks etc. Thanks again for a great course!”

“A very well run course with a great level of knowledge. I have learnt lots of skills. Thank you.”

“3 great training supervisors who know what they are talking about, and real about the expectations. Very relaxed and enthusiastic about the assessment.”

“Excellent course, well delivered and organised.”

“I learned some very engaging ways that can be used to make sessions much more engaging. These will be used both with school DofE and in normal Scout sessions.”

“A very enjoyable and informative course.”

“I learned many compass skills, having only a basic awareness before. Gained a much better understanding of the role of a DofE Expedition Supervisor, and a detailed appreciation of the route card and its practical application.”

“I felt that the LEL3 learning outcomes were met by the training, which was done in a fun and interesting manner.”
