“Dear Dave. Many apologies for the late email! I wanted to say thank you sooooo much for the wonderful care you gave Isobel (and myself). As you know Isobel was a tad nervous at the prospect of participating with a group of people she did not know! But right from the start your words of encouragement helped so much and it was the hardest thing leaving her with you in tears, but I felt she was in safe hands! I want to thank you for ensuring that she was included and integrated with the groups she worked with and that is all down to your staff that trained them over the first few days. I dreaded picking her up and thinking she would be negative and maybe not even want to go and complete the real hike in October, but it was quite the reverse, she chatted for hours about her time away, and seemed very keen to do her qualifying trip. So much so, she has gone on to buy more walking trousers and gaiters for October. My only regret is that she will not be doing her qualifying with you. My niece is due to do her Gold in a couple of years and she will most definitely be doing it with you and your team as I can’t fault any aspect of what you do and offer these young people. “Thank you to Dave and all his team; Ben, Mark and Derek, for all their support in leading our Gold practice and qualifying expedition this year. It was the first time that we had taken our students as a group on a gold expedition and there were many challenges because of their SEN needs. However Dave and his team were amazing and worked with us to create an expedition that met the requirements, catered for their additional needs but more importantly proved a challenge to the students. Throughout the expedition Dave worked alongside our school staff succinctly to provide extra support where needed but let school staff take a lead when students needed support from familiar school staff members. Dave was a pillar of support when things went unexpectedly wrong and made sure that the students could still achieve their expedition section. Overall it has been an amazing achievement and experience for both the students and staff. It will not be be forgotten easily.”

“I have had the most wonderful experience with CTS and have recommended your company to many other school contacts. Our qualifying expedition in September with Wendy, Gary, Joe and Peter was such a wonderful weekend in a stunning setting. Again without the experience, patience, compassion and dedication of your staff we would not be able to offer our students this program, so I cannot thank you and these four enough. Wendy is a fearless leader and respected by the students. In fact the groups were coming to me asking to have Wendy as their groups’ leader, she even had the honour of a group named in her honour ‘Wendy’s Angels’. Previously he has felt the weakest member of the team, with other team members setting a pace he struggled to maintain. There had also been commandeering of the map reading, so Tom felt he was useless and couldn’t do it. What a different young man came home yesterday! Tom said he’d enjoyed doing some of the map reading and didn’t have any difficulty keeping up with the group – even leading at times. He felt well prepared with the planning on Sunday and found the time getting to know the other team members a great benefit to team building. The terrain was a new area for Tom to explore and this added to his enjoyment. He is looking to start Gold when he is 16 in April and would be interested in joining one of your expeditions again. “Hi Dave, I’ve been wanting to write to you since Tobias got back but I really wanted to think about what I wanted to say which is why it wasn’t sent straight away. I’ve sure you’ve met parents like me before that just want to shelter and protect their children from what can be an awful, cruel world with some truly nasty people in it. Unfortunately, in Tobias’ few years, we’ve come across far too many of those which makes it harder for me to let go and trust him to the care of others. It was with great trepidation that we let him go with you, his first time alone with strangers and I felt distressed and distraught in the run up to leaving him on the Monday. After having spoken to you the week before, my fears had subsided a little because you were so kind and understanding and patient with me. The night before, I didn’t sleep and I was sick with nerves that morning. We made the drive over to you, in the snow and the rain. Tobias was desperate to go, to do it alone without support and it was our job to facilitate that, regardless of my fears and anxieties. We left him with you and your team, he was happy and relaxed and quite pleased to wave us off. His communications with us while he was away were very cheery and he was obviously very excited. When we picked him up on the Wednesday, he was glowing. He looked so healthy, so happy. He doesn’t do pride but he was clearly very happy with himself 😁 and what he’d accomplished. You and your team took the most excellent care of him and I can’t thank you enough for your attention to detail, he was a real member of the team, he came back with some brilliant stories and he’d even made a friend which was beautiful. He’s very much looking forward to the practice and qualifying expeditions, I feel more relaxed about it also. We would still very much like to meet with you to discuss the expeditions so thank you for agreeing to that. Please let us know when this would be convenient for you? “Sorry it’s taken a few days to contact you but I just wanted to thank you and your colleagues again for helping Angus to succeed in the Open Silver Qualifying Expedition last week. He was very tired and a bit subdued when we met at BNS last Saturday afternoon and has not said a great deal about what they all got up to last week. However, one of the other participants has kindly sent him through some photos of their adventures and I can see that he was thoroughly enjoying himself when they were taken. Such experiences are important to ALL young people, but for someone like Angus who faces major barriers to engaging in everyday teenage activities -they are even more significant. I am well aware of the time and effort that goes into the planning, organisation and delivery of this type of programme and would just like to say how much I value all the support that Angus received whilst in your collective care. All being well, he plans to register for the Gold Award shortly and i am quite sure he would not even be contemplating this if his experience with CTS had not been so positive.
