School & Group Activities

CTS regularly deliver activities and residential opportunities for a range of organisations and has developed these for children, young people and adults. We have extensive experience of delivering ‘enrichment’ provision in both primary and secondary education.

Residential Opportunities

CTS organises and delivers residential opportunities for a range of organisations, within the statutory, voluntary and private sectors, including FE Colleges, youth clubs, voluntary organisations, primary and secondary schools.

Spending time away from the home environment gives children and young people opportunities to live more independently alongside others, learning new social skills, making decisions and sharing free time. They are often able to take more individual and group ownership of learning.

The duration of a residential visit offers a unique form of intensive experience which encourages children and young people to engage with staff and peers at a deeper level and build relationships.

In order to maximise the benefits of residential experiences, CTS offers careful planning and preparation, including work undertaken with children and young people before and after the residential experience, which is key to the relevance, coherence, breadth and depth of learning.

We use a range of residential and activity centres across the UK, offering various styles of accommodation to meet an organisation's needs including outdoor centres, youth hostels and camping.

Activities

Holding professional qualifications in youth work and in a variety of outdoor activities, we are able to develop and deliver appropriate activities for young people that are designed to ‘help children and young people achieve more’, whether this be a ‘one-off’ activity or sustained development and intervention work with young people.

Outdoor education, training and recreation promote active learning through direct personal experience and offer excitement, fun and adventure within a framework of safety.

Active learning and adventure outdoors can take place in a variety of environments; rural and urban, local and more remote. Outdoor education, training and recreation involve both young people and adults in a wide variety of experiences, including adventurous activities on land and water and activities with an environmental focus. CTS uses a range of recognised methodology including skills-focus learning, problem-solving, team building and self-reliant journeys and activities, with a residential experience an especially valued feature.

Some of the outdoor activities we can provide and organise include: Archery; Indoor & Outdoor Climbing; Hillwalking; Orienteering; Canoeing; Raft Building; High Ropes; Mountain Biking; Problem Solving & Team Building; Camping.

We have extensive experience in running holiday programmes, providing diversionary and developmental activities and sports-based intervention programmes, for young people at risk of social exclusion during the school holidays and have worked in successful partnerships with local and national agencies to achieve targeted outcomes.

School Enrichment Provision

An example of our work in this area is the Birmingham Children’s University where, as a Learning Destination, we developed several activities to offer children and young people (aged 5 to 14 years old) exciting, high-quality learning activities and experiences outside normal school hours. These activities include: Sport in the Environment; Basic First Aid: Archery; and Problem Solving & Team Building, all of which are validated and successfully delivered to children from many schools within the city.

With experience of assisting in the development, management and support of Children’s Centres, CTS have also worked in partnership with a number of centres, delivering staff development and training, as well as organising and facilitating ‘Dads and Kids’ activities.

We are also able to deliver a range of Sports Leaders awards and qualifications, including:

Young Leader Award; Primary Leaders; PlayMaker Award; Level 1 Qualification in Sports Leadership; Level 2 Qualification in Sports Leadership; Level 2 Qualification in Community Sports Leadership; Level 3 Qualification in Sports Leadership
